October is set to be a melodious month in Tunbridge Wells as the International Music Festival returns, offering a diverse programme of concerts, recitals, and workshops. This annual event, now in its 20th year, aims to make high-quality live music accessible to everyone, featuring performances from renowned musicians, international stars, and local talents.

The festival kicks off on Sunday, 4th October, at 3pm with the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra at the Assembly Hall Theatre. Under the baton of Peter Selwyn, the orchestra will perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto with cellist Laura van der Heijden, alongside pieces by Brahms and Copland.

On Saturday, 10th October, at 7pm, the Church of King Charles the Martyr will host baritone Roderick Williams and pianist Christopher Glynn, who will present a programme of English songs, including Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel. The following day, pianist James Kirby will grace the stage at Rose Hill School Theatre.

The festival continues with Rediscovering Lost Quartets on 17th October, featuring the Villiers Quartet and soprano Lucy Cox at the Church of King Charles the Martyr. This concert will include newly recovered works by Frederick Delius and Ailsa Dixon, with a pre-concert talk and drinks at 6.15pm.

Young musicians are not left out, with a Youth Workshop at Waterdown House on 18th October, offering masterclasses on historic instruments. The festival concludes with performances by early keyboard specialist Linda Nicholson and cellist George Ross on 25th October, and an informal Coffee Concert at The Amelia on 30th October.
